For a coffee buyer, every lot is the result of many farmers, many growing areas and many decisions made throughout the season. This article suggests the questions worth asking when you start looking at growing-area data.

Context: from the lot to the growing area

A single lot can be put together from many different sources. When information about growing areas is recorded piecemeal, answering a seemingly simple question such as “where does this lot come from?” takes time.

Which data should you start recording?

One approach is to start with the information closest to the field:

  • Farmer details and growing-area locations
  • Coffee varieties and farming practices
  • Soil data and tree care activities
  • Harvest, processing and delivery information

Coffee + Data → Better decisions → Greater value

Where to start?

One path goes from shared understanding to data design: train your team with CODAVI Learn, survey and design your growing areas with CODAVI Map, then assess readiness with CODAVI Ready.
